Bounds for the time to failure of hierarchical systems of fracture

چکیده

For years limited Monte Carlo simulations have led to the suspicion that the time to failure of hierarchically organized load-transfer models of fracture is nonzero for sets of infinite size. This fact could have profound significance in engineering practice and also in geophysics. Here, we develop an exact algebraic iterative method to compute the successive time intervals for individual breaking in systems of height n in terms of the information calculated in the previous height n21. As a byproduct of this method, rigorous lower and higher bounds for the time to failure of very large systems are easily obtained. The asymptotic behavior of the resulting lower bound leads to the evidence that the above-mentioned suspicion is actually true. @S1063-651X~99!51402-5#

Single ‎A‎ssignment Capacitated Hierarchical Hub Set Covering Problem for Service Delivery Systems Over Multilevel Networks

The present study introduced a novel hierarchical hub set covering problem with capacity constraints. This study showed the significance of fixed charge costs for locating facilities, assigning hub links and designing a productivity network. The proposed model employs mixed integer programming to locate facilities and establish links between nodes according to the travel time between an origin-...

Effect of Fracture Spacing on VAPEX Performance in Heavy Oil Fracture Systems

The vapor extraction (VAPEX) process, a solvent-based enhanced oil recovery process has been found promising for some heavy oil reservoirs. In this work, the VAPEX process is studied using a compositional simulator on a number of single-block and multiple block fractured systems. PVT data of one of an Iranian heavy oil reservoir are used to tune the equation of state. Effects of fracture sp...

A Case for Open Network Health Systems: Systems as Networks in Public Mental Health

Increases in incidents involving so-called confused persons have brought attention to the potential costs of recent changes to public mental health (PMH) services in the Netherlands. Decentralized under the (Community) Participation Act (2014), local governments must find resources to compensate for reduced central funding to such services or “innovate.” But innovation, even when pressure for c...

Reliability Analysis of Three Elements Series and Parallel Systems under Time-varying Fuzzy Failure Rate

Reliability is the most important performance issue in the engineering design process but in the real world problems, there are limitations for using the conventional reliability. Fuzzy logic has proved to be effective in expressing uncertainties in different fields, including reliability engineering. In this paper, For both the series and parallel systems composed of three identical or differe...

The Analysis of Wheel Loader Diesel Engine Crankshaft Failure

The main purpose of this study is to review the cause for the crankshaft failure of six-cylinder diesel engine of a wheel loader after passing a short period of time. The failure had occurred after 4800 hours of in-service in the fifth crankpin of the crankshaft. Hardness and tensile tests were carried out to study their mechanical properties. Spectrophotometer machine was used to examine the c...
